CHILDREN’S TRENDS
Child : a very dynamic market

The Children’s market continues its expansion into luxury. Cashmere is quickly becoming a staple in childrenswear and adult brands continue to bring out “miniaturized collections” of their womenswear for children.
Design conscious parents are now looking a more modern style with touches of craftsmanship in children’s products.
We see concept-stores devoted entirely to the world of children with clothing, toys, furniture and decorative design items.
For more information on our Children’s Paris Shopping Guide CD, please contact your local Promostyl agent.
Some new developments in the luxury market:
New contenders in the children’s luxury market:
CHLOE – MISSONI manufactured by CWF (France), FERRARI by JAM SESSION and a new baby collection by ROBERTO CAVALLI (Italy).
Two new designers on the Parisian scene, LA FEE PARISIENNE and NENETTE DE PARIS take inspiration from traditional materials such as cashmere from Scotland. Luxury organic
cotton is used in the new-born collection of ABSORBA and the 0 – 2 collection at POMME FRAMBOISE. Many brands, such as COMPTOIR DES COTONNIERS, are adding children’s collections to their line: ANTIK BATIK, LES PETITES, ISABEL MARANT ETOILE, ZADIG ET VOLTAIRE.
Brands known for their basics are also launching children’s lines, such as ESPRIT’s KID’S COLLECTION for summer ’07. SISLEY is launching SISLEY YOUTH to be sold in BENETTON stores.
Jeanswear specialists, such as MARITHE ET FRANCOIS GIRBAUD are getting into the children’s market and the already popular DIESEL KIDS is expanding its collection.
For the 0 – 6 year-old fashionista crowd, the internet offers a wide range of possibilities.
On www.littlefashiongallery.com one
can find the latest items from ALBUM DI FAMIGLIA (Italy), MALOUP (France) and
BONNIE BABY (UK). www.marceletpaulette.com caters
to the fashion-conscious parent with a conscience, offering fair-trade collections
such as MISERICORDIA (Brazil), limited series and customized items. At www.kidsgallery.fr childrenswear
collections are presented alongside children’s home decor collections.
The home decor sector is also expanding into the children’s market:
HABITAT will be launching a children’s version of their VIP (VERY IMPORTANT PRODUCTS) range. In April, BONTON will be opening BONTON BAZAR, their home décor store. Since its opening a year ago in Paris, MONDO MIO has been the place to buy design items for children. VERNER PANTON’s chair was launched in a child-sized version by VITRA DESIGN and beat all media coverage records.
The homewear market is also expanding into childrenswear with new shapes such as kaftans and Mao jackets. The new French brand MALOUP has developed a homewear collection for children using extremely refined fabrics with unique decorative touches. The boutique LE MARCHAND D’ETOILES specializes in sleepwear for children 3- 8 years old. At LOLA COQUELICOT homewear takes its inspiration from the trousseaus of the past with items such as night-shirts and bloomers.
